News sites and Web 2.0

Have been doing some research on news websites use of web 2.0 tools such as podcasts, blogs, User Generated Content (UGC) and citizen journalism.

I was surpised by how many news sites have a large number of blogs. This seems to have replace message boards or commenting on stories as the main type of interactivity. Some interesting examples are The Guardian's Comment is Free where they have commissioned a lot of contemporary thinkers from journalists and political commentators to politicains and Bulletin's cartoonist to keep their own blogs.
